I was a gruelling 12 hours sanding floors, and tear down wallpaper one child strapped on my back while the other babies were playing into the playpen. Ha! We were getting closer to being done, yet it was still a long distance to go. In this undertaking I was ready to spend a considerable amount of money and time searching for the perfect home. To stay on budget I began going to estate sales with three sons to find jewels in the rough. We had a weekly schedule which consisted of spending the week from Thursday through Saturday walking around sale houses and garages, buying old and new items. I then spent the remainder of the week sanding and painting the driveway. What I saw looked something like... this is when my passion to restore furniture was born. I kept on restoring furniture even after we had decorated our house. I had an area at the market to sell things. Eventually I had more pieces that I knew what to do with and outgrew the space. In my own home, I began hosting open houses where more than 1,000 people were able to come in to purchase anything they wanted from the first floor over the course of a weekend. My business Growing Days began here. Alongside my flourishing company, I also started our family. It was essential to find the right balance to me. I wanted to be both a mom and a successful business owner. Growing Days just fit. Nora was born in 2013 to be our fourth baby. Although I was happy about the direction my company took, I felt like I was in need of an occasional break. I took a pause from creating vintage furniture and slowed down my pace and stayed at home to take care of the kids. It was exactly what I was looking for at the time. It was only after several months that my phone began to call. I was getting calls from people asking me to help with their home improvement as well as interior design. Most of these people were the ones who had strolled through my home during the open houses for furniture! In the course of my work I began adding customers to my client list each day. But it wasn't long before I had several clients, and had a successful home remodeling business. If you'd told me that this business of mine could become the premise of a tv show for the DIY Network I probably would have laughed. Indeed, I am laughing at times when I think of the episode.
